| Chairman's Report
As Presented at the 2006/2007 AGM
PA Committee
The Committee for 2006 was once again strong, positive and fun. Going into 2006, we have had some very good recruits who have taken on roles as Treasurer, 500 Club administrator, web site designers and a new Chairman. However, the start of the new academic year in 2007 only saw one new member from Y7 – this is a worry as each year we lose some Committee members as their boys leave the school. Therefore, a drive to attract new support is in train. The continuing support and relationship with the school staff is outstanding, and our special thanks go to Roy Page, Richard Shreeve and Hilary Munday for their support of the Committee. Parent SupportMembership of the Association continues to be strong, with the majority of the new Y7 parents joining up. Once again we ran the New Parents’ Coffee Morning and Cheese and Wine Evening which proved popular in bringing together parents and staff. Support for the events we have organised has been generally good, with the notable exception of the Christmas Party. The Party in both 2005 and in 2006 had to be cancelled due to a lack of numbers. We suspect that this is mainly because the calendar in December is extremely busy and it is one event too many. Therefore we will think again for 2007. Fundraising and Fundraising EventsWe have a had a packed calendar of events in 2006, with boys’ discos, salsa dancing, quizzes and the Autumn Ball all proving popular. In all we raised some £23,000 in the financial year to Aug 06, a marvellous achievement by any standards. My sincere thanks go to the Committee organizers and the parent helpers and volunteers who contributed to making this happen. In 2007 we can look forward to another busy year and, hopefully, a further successful fundraising one for the school. We are planning to hold a major event in 2008 in order to boost our reserve fund, and planning for this is already underway. The 500 club continues to contribute a steady income along with the new parent subscriptions, although both need close attention. Projects for the SchoolThis year the School has benefited from many items funded by the PA totalling over £28, 000 meaning we eat into our reserve fund significantly. We continued to pay for the glazing project, which has proven to be a spectacular boon for the school and two minibus leases. The other major project was new curtains for the Queen’s Hall Stage. A full list of expenditure is in the Treasurer's Report. And FinallyOn behalf of the entire Committee I offer my thanks to the outgoing Chairman, Mark Stewart, for a fantastic term of leadership. Fortunately for us he is remaining on the Committee so we will continue to enjoy his spark and organization of events. Keith Marshall RGSPA Chairman November, 2006 |
