| Disco Raises Roof
...and record funds
We had no reason to think that the last Disco would be out of the
ordinary. Until we realised all the girl’s tickets had sold out…
The PA has been running a regular Year 7/8 disco for just over 2 years
now. These have become increasingly popular and have raised around £1,000 a
time, with 300-400 RGS boys & Becky High/Wycombe High girls buying tickets.
Our most recent Disco, on 11th November, hit a new high when both girls’
schools sold all of their allotted tickets and RGS had also sold a large
number, leaving a limited number to be sold on the door.
Shortly before the event several extra helpers were coerced into helping
and preparing for the large numbers that were expected. Although the Queen’s
Hall is the largest school hall in Bucks and is quite capable of holding up
to 560 people, we decided that there must be a cut off point well before
that. Fortunately, it didn’t get to the stage where we had to turn children
away, but it did mean that we sold out of glow sticks, drinks and sweets!
The main thing is that everyone seemed to enjoy themselves – helpers as
well as disco-goers! The new “Space” under the Queen’s Hall was much
appreciated. It provided somewhere for the kids to escape the noise of the
disco and have a chat, the helpers were grateful for it as well!
Those parents who witnessed the traffic jam at the end of the evening
will be pleased to learn that we have revised the collection procedure for
the next disco!
It was great to discover that we made over £1,700 from the evening, we’re
looking forward to the next one - and are considering a sideline of selling
ear-plugs for the adults...
